Fixmytweet

About Us

What is Fixmytweet?

Fixmytweet is a service which allows you to report problems (such as potholes, fly tipping, abandoned vehicles etc) to your council directly through Twitter.

What councils are covered?

All of the councils in Great Britain (but not Northern Ireland) are covered.

How does it work?

Once you're registered with us, we regularly (every five minutes) look for tweets with the hashtag #fixmytweet. We then process the information, send it to Fixmystreet, who then send you an email to add more information and send the report to the council.

Who runs this site?

This site is run by Lichfield District Council thanks to funding from the Communities and Local Government Timely Information to Citizens project. Once reports are processed by us, they are sent to Fixmystreet, which is a seperate system run by MySociety. We're not officially linked with MySociety, although their developers did offer help and guidance (for which we're eternally grateful!).

Why do you need my email address?

Once you send your tweet, that's only part of the story. Once your report is received, Fixmystreet will need to send you an email so you can add more detailed information (the sort of information you can't fit in a 140 character tweet!) and confirm your report. Your email address is then sent with the report to the relevant council so they can contact you for any additional information.

We will only use your email address for this purpose and promise not to send you any emails for any other purpose.

How do I attach a picture?

We currently support the following picture services:

You can either visit the service's website or use any of the popular Twitter client's inbuilt features.

If you use a picture service that isn't listed here and would like to see it added, contact us and we'll try and make it happen.

What's this about geotagging?

Twitter now has the ability to share your location with the people who follow you.

This means that if you're out and about and use a smartphone, such as an iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone and use certain apps to tweet (such as Tweetie 2 for iPhone, Ubertwitter for Blackberry or Twidroid for Android), you can report problems as you see them via Twitter, without knowing the postcode.

To find out how to tweet with your location, visit the Twitter help website.

What if my tweets are protected?

Unfortunately, if your tweets are protected, we won't be able to 'see' them and pick them up. Twitter are looking into ways to improve the API, so this may change in the future.
